Aarts Martinus (Herisau)

After my elementary and high school education, I attended physiotherapy training in Heerlen, in the south of the Netherlands, and graduated in 1991.

During my military service I gained my first professional experience as a physiotherapist in the Military Rehabilitation Center in Doorn, mainly with amputation patients and back rehabilitation.

On 23.4.1993 I came to Switzerland and found my first job in Knoblisbühl/Walenstadtberg. There I worked among others with MS and COPD patients and started a rehabilitation & sports program for COPD patients.

1½ years later I moved to Zurich. I worked in the orthopedic university clinic Balgrist for about 4 years. There, too, I set up a rehabilitation program, this time building on my experience with amputation patients from military rehab.

In 1996 I started my training in osteopathy. I graduated in 2001 and enjoy working in this profession. In addition to my work as an osteopath in my practice for osteopathy in Herisau and Gossau, I was still more than 10 years (until summer 2011) assistant and lecturer at the training for osteopathy, the College Sutherland in Ulm.

In osteopathy I have furthered my education on the following topics, among others: Osteopathy and functional medicine headache syndromes, Osteopathy and functional medicine in disorders of the hormonal and urogenital systems, Osteopathy and functional medicine in disorders of the digestive system, Osteopathy and its importance in functional orthodontics in children, Pediatric Osteopathy (4 years) and in 2008 I started Biodynamic Osteopathy.

On 2.10.2009 I successfully submitted my diploma thesis for the title Diplomierter Osteopath(D.O.) and on 12.06.2010 I successfully passed my Intercantonal Examination for Osteopaths in Switzerland. Since then I am intercantonally recognized osteopath and therefore recognized by all health insurance companies.
