STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION Structure and function are interdependent. Our body is made up of countless structures such as bones, muscles, tendons, and organs that have a variety of tissue properties. It is always function that makes a structure what it is. When the function changes, so does the structure. A bone grows when it is under constant pressure and tension, just as a muscle grows stronger. When bones or muscles are no longer needed, they become weak and atrophy. The same is true for all other body structures: more function usually leads to more structure and vice versa.

INSeparable unit Our organism is made up of countless structures, all of which are directly or indirectly connected to each other. The connection is made by fasciae, thin layers of connective tissue that surround every body structure and together form a large body fascia. They also connect structures that are functionally unrelated. Fasciae can also transmit changes such as functional disorders, which is why causes in one place often lead to complaints in completely different parts of the body. Functional disorders can therefore always affect the entire organism. Therefore, osteopathy never treats individual complaints or diseases, but always the patient as a whole.

SELF-HEALING FORCES Health is not a goal that we achieve, but a kind of balance that our body wants to maintain. This is not so easy because our body is constantly exposed to internal and external influences that can throw it out of this balance. As long as our body can maintain this balance, we speak of health. When this balance is lost, we get sick. But even if we get sick, our body does not give up, but tries to become healthy again with the help of its self-healing powers, i.e. to establish a new balance.
