What is osteopathy? Osteopathy is a proven manual medicine for diagnosis and treatment based on a thorough knowledge of the anatomical structures and physiological functions of the human body. Osteopaths can use their hands to diagnose changes and limitations in mobility in the body and treat them with precise and gentle manual techniques. Osteopathy always considers the human body as an inseparable unit. Muscles, ligaments, tendons, joints, nervous system, organs, blood and lymph vessels and connective tissue are interconnected and form a harmonious whole. Only the interaction of the individual structures enables the organism to function as a whole. If the mobility of one of these structures is disturbed, problems also occur with the associated structures. Even a relatively minor loss of mobility in the tissue structure can impair its functions and lead to pain and discomfort. Osteopathic treatment Osteopathic treatment begins with a detailed discussion, the anamnesis. This elicits a detailed medical history including medical records, medical tests, x-rays, eating habits, etc. During the subsequent physical examination, a trained sense of touch is used to systematically search for disturbing movement restrictions and tension states that may be the cause of discomfort. The osteopath will then try to use targeted, gentle treatment techniques to restore the lost flexibility and mobility of the affected body regions and thus also the self-regulation of the entire organism. Of course, it is important that the patient also actively participates in the health process. The osteopath will support this and inform the patient accordingly.
